As part of the Envision Community Apprentice scheme 2014-15 Team IMPACT reached the semi-finals by transforming Kings Heath Community Garden & Centre.
Year 12 girls to work on an engineering project with a partner company. The company provide a real project that the students must understand, find a solution for, and present this solution. Mentors from the company support the girls at weekly meetings, helping them produce a report, model or example of their solution, and prepare display boards and a presentation for the Celebration Event in April.
This scheme provides an opportunity to learn valuable skills and in project and time management, and team working, as well as some specific engineering, report-writing and presentation experience. It is well respected by universities, and employers, and the students also qualify for a CREST Gold Award, which is recognised on UCAS applications.
The Envision team ‘Just Chat It’ organised workshops for main school students on how to be safe on line. Their efforts won them the Princess Diana Award.
